Off to the Teal Ribbon 5k

Well I'm off to Philadelphia tonight with my mom and Hannah for tomorrow's Teal Ribbon 5k to Overcome Ovarian Cancer. This will be my second 5k this week, and I'm hoping to improve my time a bit. Since I can't run with a jogger stroller, my mom will be pushing Hannah throughout the race, as she's walking it. I don't know if I'll get emotional about it, but I will certainly have my Nana in my thoughts during the race and hoping she's looking down, proud, knowing we did this for her. I've been so overwhelmed and touched by the response I've gotten to the fundraising effforts. I really thought if I raised $500 it would be fantastic. But as of this morning mom and I had raised $1,570 in online donations, and I know of at least three others that were mailed in! How amazing! I know what tough economic times we're all in and that we all get hit up every week for some sort of fundraiser, so to get this sort of response from my family and friends is just overwhelming!

I will try and take some photos of the event tomorrow and post here soon. But at the very least I'll post a re-cap of the morning's events when I return.

Jelise; I hope you have a good run tomorrow! Try to relax, find your groove, and enjoy it! Don't get too hung up on your time; although that is normal. Some of us are just not built to make drastic changes in our run times (men seem to make those improvements much faster and easier). During my running years, I've seen lots of fast runners who couldn't do distance running. And lots of runners (like myself) who could maintain the distances but at a slower pace. Here's "A Runner's Prayer" for you.

Our Father,

Accept my gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this race and in the larger race of life. I accept with thankfulness the wholeness and well being which running contributes to my life. As running brings pleasure to my life so may my efforts on this day bring pleasure to You, my Creator.

I give thanks for a physical body wonderfully made. Help me to exercise good stewardship of the health, energy, and clarity of mind provided for my use. Bless my efforts in training to develop these gifts to their full potential.

Give me the strength to endure and the passion to persevere. Protect me from injury and illness. May I possess courage and character in adequate supply to meet the challenge before me.

Grant me integrity to do my best in the quest to finish well. I can do no more and desire no less.

Your Nana will be watching over you and I'm sure she is so proud of your efforts for such a worthy cause!

I will be in your heart and running with you in spirit!

Love, Kathy
